Navigator dashboard — session stats showing 92% token savings

Traditional AI coding wastes 94% of context on unused documentation. Navigator fixes this by loading a 2k-token index at session start and fetching task-specific docs on-demand. The result: 150k tokens compressed to 12k, with 97% of context available for actual work. We built it with Claude Code to solve our own development workflow challenges.

The Problem

Context window exhaustion

Developers load entire project documentation upfront. With 200k token limits, most sessions run out of context within hours, forcing restarts and lost work.

No strategic loading

Claude Code has no built-in way to selectively load documentation. Either everything loads (wasting tokens) or nothing loads (losing context). Projects need intelligent middle ground.

Navigator - Context efficiency visualization

Before vs After: 150k tokens reduced to 12k through strategic loading

The Solution

Navigator implements context engineering based on Anthropic's research. A lightweight navigator file (2k tokens) indexes all project documentation. Skills load task-specific docs on-demand (3-5k each). Context markers compress session state at 97.5% ratio. Agents handle exploration without polluting main context.

22 Built-in Skills

Session Management

nav-start initializes with efficient loading. nav-marker creates savepoints (130k compressed to 3k). nav-compact clears context while preserving decisions. nav-stats shows real-time efficiency metrics.

Development Workflow

frontend-component generates React/Vue components. backend-endpoint creates REST/GraphQL APIs. database-migration handles schema changes. frontend-test and backend-test generate comprehensive tests.

Knowledge Capture

nav-task documents implementation plans. nav-sop converts solutions into reusable procedures. nav-skill-creator generates project-specific custom skills from patterns you establish.

Advanced Features

Theory of Mind integration (v5.0) learns your preferences. Verification checkpoints confirm understanding. Quality detection catches collaboration drift. Multi-Claude orchestration for parallel execution.

Technical Implementation

Architecture

TypeScript/JavaScript primary with Python for deterministic functions. Markdown templates for documentation. JSON configuration. Bash scripts for CLI automation. Integrates with Linear, GitHub, Figma via MCP.

Measurement

OpenTelemetry integration for real metrics (not estimates). Tracks actual token usage, cache hit rates, session costs. Verified 92% reduction across production usage.

Results

Token efficiency

92% reduction (150k to 12k). 97% context available for work. Zero session restarts. 10x more commits per token budget.

Developer adoption

181 commits. Active development from v3.1.0 through v5.0.0. MIT licensed for community use. Available via Claude Code plugin marketplace.

Open Source

Navigator is released under MIT license. Install via Claude Code: /plugin install navigator. Full documentation, architecture guides, and learning materials included. We use it daily to build client projects — the same framework that powers our Claude Code Studio workflow.
